school. one of the suspects then made a move toward them. a shot was fired but missed the suspect and went into the school wall. from victim to victim's advocate, a bay area man who says he was molested by a priest is turning anger into action. william lynch made headlines when he attacked the man he says assaulted him. unable to file criminal charges against the priest because it happened so long ago, lynch is beginning a fight to change that law. jean ellie joins us live from san francisco with more on his new plan. >> reporter: janelle, will lynch says his life was ruined when a priest molested him and says the statute of limitations in california makes it impossible for victims to hold an buyerses accountable. now he's ready to fight to change that. >> i've been hearing from additional victims of lippeder and many people from around the world. >> will lynch grabbed headlines and the attention of molest takes victims when he attacked

the man he says raped him when he was 7. reverend jerry linder, the statute of limitations made it impossible for lynch to hold linder criminally responsible, but the molestation ruined his life. >> depression, suicide attempts. you know, i have kind of a warrior mentality. some people turn inwards. it made me angry. >> a jury acquitted him of felony assault charges. during the trial, linder took the stand and denied molesting lynch. wednesday the santa clara county district attorney announced he will not file perjury charges against the priest. >> i'm disappointed and don't support that decision. but i do think that it's time it move forward. >> reporter: lynch is moving on to a new fight he hopes will empower victims. >> if we can repeal the statute of lim takings that would help a lot of people have already been affected. and absolutely help the children

in the future. >> lynch wants to let voters decide if the statute out of limitations should be ended, a costly fight he's spearheading for abuse victims. in san jose, a 16 beller man high school graduate is revealing charges. lynch is now ready to dig in and fight for change. >> i don't want to see people suffer like i have, and it just makes sense. >> lynch expects it will take millions of dollars to pass a ballot measure. his first fund-raiser is this weekend. >> thanks so much, jean. the family of ambassador chris stevens is gathering in washington, d.c. tonight as they wait for his body to return to u.s. soil. tonight his younger sister spoke with brian williams exclusively. >> he talked a little bit about the security but didn't make a

big deal of it. he more spoke of how much he enjoyed the work that he was doing and the diplomatic mission that he was on. >> 52-year-old chris stevens was from the bay area and went to piedmont high and uc berkeley. u.s. officials say he was a pod del diplomat proud to serve his country. he and three other americans were killed at the u.s. embassy in libya on tuesday night. we're learning more about how stevens' life came to an end. >> after tuesday's attack on the u.s. embassy in libya, there's word tonight a dying chris stevens was carried to a medical center by locals from benghazi. the libyan doctor says he died of severe asphyxiation causing stomach bleeding. meanwhile, u.s. officials say there's no indication that the attack on the con sue late was planned contrary to earlier reports. they believe militants jumped at

the opportunity while a protest of an anti-islamic film made in the u.s. was taking place outside the embassy. meanwhile, angry mob-like demonstrations over that film have now spread to 11 countries. this was the scene in cairo where protesters balloted with police. security forces fired tear gas to try and disburse the crowd. it was successful at keeping them away from the u.s. embassy. not the case in yemen where protesters were determined to destroy the american embassy. forces could not keep them away. dem mon straighters were able to get inside the parking lot, smashing vehicles. the u.s. embassy was prepared. the staff was already moved to a safe location and no one was hurt. >> the three other americans killed alongside streempbs sean smith, an information officer and again doherty and tie row woods. both were former navy s.e.a.l.s

you know, my dad loved all the you guys. i can see that you love him. >> as youngstrom's family took him to his final resting place for a private funeral, his fellow officers gave him one final salute. tense moments in the oakland hills tonight as a fire erupted in the same neighborhood that was destroyed 21 years ago in that devastating wildfire ta killed 25 people. tonight, a house that was reby the after the oakland hills firestorm burned again. it happened on the 7,000 block of norfolk road near westmoreland drive. joel he cheryl herd is live with the latest for us. >> the fire department is wrapping up here tonight and the winds are calm. that's significant because the winds were not calm 21 years ago when fire ripped through this area. the smoke could be seen for miles. and from the freeway, you could see the fire was coming pr the oakland berkeley hills, the very

same area that has a painful past. >> as we were driving up we saw the helicopters ahead and knew it was more serious than we were hoping for. >>. >> reporter: gary firestone says he got a call from the uc berkeley police saying he had better check on his home. it wassen fire. >> the fireman said that it probably started in a storage area. >> there was enough there to generate a huge response. >> the fire keeps moving. and there's some areas where it can move underneath the floor boards and stuff. i don't know exactly what that's called. they're punching out holes inside the house to chase the fire. >> for some people, the fire took them back 21 years ago when a small grass fire turned into an intern know. the origin of that fire is literal lili five blocks away from this home. almost all of the homes in this area burned to the ground.

for dead. he was rescued and had to undergo several surgeries including one to remove his injured eyes. he is now looking for a home. george kitayama has more on the story. george? >> champ the dog now lives here in morgan hill. his foster pet mom says he went through a traumatising experience she believes due to abuse and neglect. this video may disturb some of you. champ the dog can't see the toy he's chewing. he is blind after someone left him tied up, injured and left to die. >> it makes me upset and angry at whoever would have done that to him. he's a loving helpless animal. >> emily rescued champ and found him tied up to a fence with a cable around his neck at an aelementary school. >> he was bleeding and had bite marks and cuts all over him, he was disoriented, he couldn't stand or walk.

online shoppers get ready. california's amazon tax goes into effect on saturday. the new law requires internet only stores to start charging sales tax ranging anywhere from 7.225% to 9.25%. as of now, amazon leaves up to customers to pay the taxes

themselves but less than a half a percent of californians have been doing that, costing the state more than $1 million each year. so how are people reacting? amazon says it's seen a recent spike of about 10% in sales as many people rush to buy before the tax kicks in. the big apple is saying good-bye to big soda das. new york city is the first in the nation to put a lid on the sale of sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces. that smaller than most standard fountain sodas which are usually 20 ounces. more than 50% of new yorkers are considered overweight or obese. it will not apply to fruit juices, diet soft drinks or dairy-based drinks like milk shakes. it will go into effect in march. a turn of events for the a's but not a good one. sports is next.
